Johanna hails from England, where she studied early childhood development at university, and taught as a nursery school teacher. In 1984, life brought her to the United States where she worked as a nanny and travelled extensively.
Johanna’s journey into yoga and meditation began around ten years ago. She met a humble Indian monk who introduced her to yoga’s practices of breathing exercises, and present moment awareness — and she knew that there was no turning back. She deepened her understanding of this ancient wisdom practice through studies in Primordial Sound meditation, mantra, and chanting, and then went even deeper into the world of sound energy by studying the use of Tibetan Singing Bowls, using these healing sounds as the gentle yet powerful underpinning for her work with guided imagery. Finding a home at Stone Yoga, she completed her 200 hour RYT (registered yoga teacher) training, and then pursued further certifications in chair yoga, yoga for cancer, yoga for Parkinson’s and Multiple Sclerosis, and children’s yoga.
In addition to her hatha-flow yoga classes, Johanna volunteers as a yoga teacher offering gentle, healing yoga for cancer survivors, and she also offers fun children’s birthday parties, bridal showers, and private sessions.
Her love of this practice permeates all aspects of her life, and her great passion is to share from deep within herself a real-life, fully embodied yoga that welcomes everyone onto the mat or chair warmly, with gentle humor, genuine love, and profound respect. Her students deeply enjoy her creative sequences, and they love to relax and shed stress to the sound her Tibetan Singing Bowls, following her soothing voice as she guides meditations and employs guided imagery to enhance each student’s experience. She can’t wait to welcome you.
